The Canadian Institute of Planners stands in solidarity with Ukraine.
The invasion of Ukraine is against international law, human rights, and democracy. CIP strongly condemns Russia for its aggression, which is causing an irreparable loss of life, community, and ecosystems.
Planners call for peace and an immediate end to this devastating war. The Canadian planning profession is founded on a responsibility to the public interest, and we respect and protect diversity in values, cultures, economics, ecosystems, built environments, and distinct places. We believe in dialogue, meaningful engagement, and diplomacy to understand and resolve conflicts.
CIP recognizes the Government of Canada’s leadership and efforts to support Ukraine, including providing humanitarian assistance for displaced refugees, and supports the sanctions against Russia. Our organization is also actively reviewing its financial investments to ensure that any funds with a link to Russia are divested.
Our organization will continue to closely monitor the invasion, including opportunities to assist.
