OTTAWA, March 24, 2025 – As Canadians prepare to head to the polls on April 28, 2025, the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) highlights the crucial role of planning in building stronger, more sustainable, and economically resilient communities. The next federal government will have an opportunity to support solutions that expand the housing supply, enhance climate-resilient infrastructure, and improve quality of life for all Canadians.

“Every day, planners play a vital, yet often understated role in shaping the spaces where we live, work, and play,” says Lesley Cabott RPP, FCIP, ICD D, President of CIP. “This election, Canadians expect political parties to present bold, actionable strategies for our communities, cities, and regions’ most pressing challenges. Professional planners have the knowledge and expertise to help the next federal government strengthen our communities and improve quality of life across the country.”

With nearly 10,000 members working from coast-to-coast-to-coast, Canada’s professional planners are ready to collaborate with elected officials to develop innovative, fiscally responsible, and results-driven policies. CIP looks forward to working with the next government to foster vibrant, inclusive, and resilient communities that Canadians are proud to call home.
