OTTAWA, Ontario – August 2, 2016. The Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) is pleased to announce Eleanor Mohammed RPP, MCIP, as its 63rd President. Ms. Mohammed was elected to the CIP Board of Directors by the membership, and was endorsed as President by the Board on July 24, 2016. Ms. Mohammed will serve as President of the Institute for a two year term.
“Planners are uniquely positioned to influence change, as communities of every size tackle issues like climate change and affordable housing. I am pleased to represent the Institute, giving a voice to planners during this exciting time,” said Eleanor Mohammed.
CIP’s Board of Directors is comprised of members from across Canada, as well as from academia and the CIP College of Fellows. It makes broad governance decisions, and is supported by volunteer committees and CIP staff.

Upcoming CIP Initiatives
In her role as President, Ms. Mohammed will play a role in CIP’s national and international initiatives. In October, she will be attending Habitat III in Quito, Ecuador as part of the Global Planners Network delegation.
Ms. Mohammed will also promote and support other CIP initiatives including, the World Town Planning Day online conference which happens on November 8, and the Great Places in Canada contest which will begin in August.
About Eleanor Mohammed MCIP, RPP
Eleanor Mohammed MCIP, RPP is currently the Director of Planning and Engineering at the Town of Beaumont, Alberta.
Having worked for the Government of Alberta, Stantec Consulting Ltd., and Leduc County, she has led a variety of provincial and municipal projects including the preparation of statutory documents, policy and guideline development, stakeholder engagement, subdivision management, and environmental planning.
Eleanor has over five years of professional board experience. She has served as the President of the Alberta Professional Planners Institute and as a National Board of Directors Member for the Canadian Institute of Planners. Eleanor holds a Masters with Distinction in Town and Country Planning from the University of the West of England, Bristol, U.K. and has an Honours Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto with a specialization in Environmental Management. She is not afraid to rise to any challenge and is a natural collaborative leader!
