From coast to coast to coast, a growing number of older adults in Canada are encountering substantial risks due to the combination of rising housing costs and a rapidly aging population. To effectively tackle this issue, planners can rely on data-based analysis and collaborative efforts with other organizations.
In this presentation, the speakers will demonstrate how planners can effectively utilize census data to identify areas where vulnerable populations are concentrated. By focusing on the Metro Vancouver area as a case study, the presenters will delve into the issue of housing insecurity among senior renters. Through the use of a geographic information system (GIS) map, they will visually highlight the specific areas where vulnerable seniors are most prevalent. Furthermore, the presentation will showcase real-life examples of collaborative policies and programs that have been utilized to provide support for seniors aging in place.
