Canada Lands has been redeveloping the former Canadian Forces Base Griesbach since the early 2000s into the award-winning Village at Griesbach, an amenity-rich neighbourhood that commemorates Canadian military history and has become one of the most desirable neighbourhoods in Edmonton. Twenty years in, Canada Lands is navigating the balance between the existing community and current residents of the beloved northeast corner – the last area to be redeveloped – encouraging them to dream big about a new future for the place they’ve called home for decades.
With the goal of creating award-winning, legacy communities, Canada Lands and their integrated planning, design, engineering, and engagement team crafted a multi-pronged, iterative, and integrated engagement and master planning program to engage residents. The project integrates innovative housing forms, a mix of uses and multi-model connections, existing and enhanced natural features, inclusive and accessible open spaces, and commemoration opportunities.
The Village at Griesbach highlights the opportunities available when an integrated project team approaches a redevelopment site with curiosity, innovation, empathy, and the opportunities of the future in mind. By working collaboratively, we continue the legacy of Growing Griesbach together.
