This webinar consisted of a brief overview of the Shared Path (its genesis, mandate, and activities), followed by a discussion about letting treaties guide planning in order to work towards meaningful implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), as well as the principles of Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC).
The webinar concluded with a brief run-down of the kinds of things that planners can do in order to begin letting treaties guide their planning work, as well as an overview of the work that the Shared Path is embarking on for the next few years, and how planners might get involved.
Participants can expect:
- to learn about the duty to consult and accommodate and the role of municipalities;
- to hear about the Shared Path Consultation Initiative – its genesis, mandate, and activities;
- to hear of examples of how to go about incorporating treaty into planning practice;
- to reflect on the role that planners can play in implementing UNDRIP and FPIC
