What is The Path?
Over the last few months, you may have heard us mention “The Path.” The Path: Your Journey Through Indigenous Canada is an acclaimed six-module online course that explores the historical and contemporary realities of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis. The course was created by NVision Insight Group – a majority Indigenous-owned consulting company, and we are proud to be working with them to offer a version of The Path for our members.
The CIP team recently sat down with Jennifer David, Senior Consultant and Lead of the Truth and Reconciliation Service Basket, who developed and narrates the course.
In the interview, Jennifer reflects on how The Path was created to support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC)’s 94 Calls to Action, specifically those related to education.
The development of the course, and its name, were also inspired by a quote made by the Honourable Murray Sinclair C.C., M.S.C at the issuing of the TRC’s final report:
We have described for you a mountain, we have shown you the path to the top. We call upon you to do the climbing.”
The Honourable Murray Sinclair C.C., M.S.C
Planners have an essential role to play in the journey towards reconciliation.
Learning (and unlearning) about the lived experiences of Indigenous communities is your first step in building relationships based on mutual respect, trust, and meaningful dialogue with Indigenous peoples. Learn more about the course content here.
The Path is a part of our commitment to providing Career Support for Life services to our members.
The Path is eligible for six unstructured and self-reported continuous professional learning (CPL) units. Upon completion, you will also receive a certificate from NVision and a CIP digital badge.
