International Internship Program for Planners

Thank you for your interest in the Canadian Institute of Planners. Please note that the CIP is not offering any placements at this time. We encourage you to visit the site regularly for updates.

Founded in 1919, the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) is the national organization of professional planners in Canada. CIP and seven provincial-level affiliate organizations based across Canada provide membership services. CIP has managed an international internship program on behalf of the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) since 1998.

The WorldLink International Internship Program for Planners provides entry-level professional work experience to recent graduates interested in gaining their first paid overseas work experience in the planning field. Working in partnership with other Canadian private and non-profit organizations managing international planning projects, the WorldLink Program has successfully placed over 100 recent graduates in internship positions in over 30 developing countries and economies in transition.

The Program makes available an allowance of CDN$9,500 plus travel expenses for each 6- to 8-month internship placement. Host organizations may provide additional contributions. Experience gained during the internship is applied towards requirements for full membership in CIP. Interns are provided with active career development assistance during and after their participation in WorldLink.

Detailed placement descriptions are posted in the table below. Click on the placement title for the full Terms of Reference. Please note that there are two internship start dates: April/May 2012 and August/September 2012. Please note that the working language of the program is English and the terms of reference are available in English only.
