CIP Healthy Communities Student Program

Since 2010 the Canadian Institute of Planners has been actively involved in a national program to promote healthier communities. The Healthy Canada by Design CLASP Coalition1 is funded by Health Canada through the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer's CLASP Program and managed by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

In order to help stimulate health-planning partnerships, a culture of collaboration should be encouraged amongst young professionals who are entering their respective professions and embarking on their careers. From this perspective, educational institutions have an important role to play in helping to promote the planning and development of healthy communities in Canada.

As a partner in the second phase of the Healthy Canada by Design CLASP Initiative, CIP will establish a program intended to promote joint projects between planning students at accredited planning schools and students in health-related disciplines. To that end, the Institute will make available cash awards for joint student projects for the development of posters, project demonstration and support for travel to CIP's 2014 Conference in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

Through the Healthy Canada by Design CLASP Initiative, CIP will make available cash awards for at least 5 healthy community projects (10 students @ up to $1,590 per student, based on actual travel expenses) to be featured at a student session as part of CIP's 2014 conference in Fredericton, New Brunswick.
