Meet CIP at the World Urban Forum, April 5-11, 2014!

The Seventh session of the World Urban Forum (WUF7) takes place in MedellĂ­n, Colombia for six days of discussions examining the theme "Urban Equity in Development - Cities for Life".  

CIP will be represented at WUF 7 by President Michael Gordon, and Director of Policy and Public Affairs, Andrew Sacret. CIP will host a Networking Event (NE 122) called Forging Partnerships for Healthy Community Planning to share best practices from Canada and abroad in planning for healthy communities. CIP will participate in several other sessions, and will co-host an exhibit space with its partners in the Global Planners Network (GPN).

Canada will have a strong presence at the forum.  Consult the following flyer (English/Spanish) for an outline of the key activities of the Canadian Delegation to WUF7. If you’re planning to be there, please introduce yourself!

Registration is now open for the 2014 People Matter! CIP│API Conference.

The theme of the conference is People Matter! It is a call for action for planners to place more emphasis on the physical, social, environmental, health and economic elements of communities that enhance quality of life.

Plan Canada - Call for Articles

Plan Canada Magazine is seeking articles relating to community development and planning in Canada. Consult the Plan Canada Webpages for more information and author guidelines. Please submit articles and supporting graphics by email to Michelle Garneau. Submission deadlines are:

  • June 20th, 2014 for the Fall issue*
  • September 19th, 2014 for the Winter issue
  • December 12th, 2014 for the Spring 2015 issue

If yes, you should submit an article to the Fall Issue of Plan Canada (deadline is June 20th, 2014), which will feature news and knowledge from the conference. Canada’s 2013 Great Places Announced

Five locations in Canada have been named this year’s Great Places in Canada.

The Grand Prize winners – selected on the basis of both popularity and planning excellence as judged by a panel of experts – are:

Great Neighbourhood: Old South/ Wortley Village, London, ON
Great Street: Lacombe's Historic Main Street, Lacombe, AB
Great Public Space: Saint John City Market, Saint John, NB

The People’s Choice Award winners – based solely on the number of votes – were announced as well. They are:

Great Neighbourhood: Old South/ Wortley Village, London, ON
Great Street: Courthouse Square, Goderich, ON
Great Public Space: McAdam Train Station, McAdam, NB
