World Town Planning Day

World Town Planning Day (WTPD) is an international day celebrating the accomplishments of planners and their contributions to their communities. On November 8, planners around the world participate in World Town Planning Day activities annually, a practice that began in 1949.

World Town Planning Day – a Message from the Global Planners Network, 2020

"This year World Town Planning Day marks the end of the first year of the “Decade of Action”. We must continue to provide leadership to our communities and empower them to engage in climate action and planning for the world we need and can sustain. We also need to be looking out for and supporting each other as the global pandemic has taken a toll on the mental health of our colleagues and communities." - The Global Planners Network, 2020

Canadian Celebration of World Town Planning Day: November 8

CIP supports World Town Planning Day as an opportunity to promote better understanding and awareness of Canadian planners and planning to local communities and all levels of government.

Celebrate World Town Planning Day in Your Community

CIP invites planners to celebrate the value and contributions of planning and planners in their community. You are invited to:
  • Share news of your local activities with World Town Planning Day participants from around the world. If you are holding an event, please share it with CIP by emailing communications@cip-icu.ca or tagging @wtpdonline on Twitter.
  • Distribute World Town Planning Day messages to town councils and government bodies.

We thank all of our members who support World Town Planning Day, and are grateful for the communities who have shared their celebrations with us.
