World Town Planning Day

About World Town Planning Day

World Town Planning Day (WTPD) is an international day celebrating the accomplishments of planners and their contributions to their communities. On November 8, planners in more than 30 countries participate in World Town Planning Day activities annually, a practice that began in 1949.

Canadian Celebration of World Town Planning Day: November 8

CIP supports World Town Planning Day as an opportunity to promote better understanding and awareness of Canadian planners and planning to local communities and all levels of government.

WTPD 2017

CIP will be organizing a week long online conference in celebration of World Town Planning Day. The conference will showcase presentations, live events, keynote speakers, and videos on planning issues and innovations from Canada and around the world.
Call for abstracts
CIP is inviting our members and partners to celebrate the value and contributions of planning and planners in their community by participating in this year's online conference.
Some suggested topics for presentations include:

  • UN's Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda
  • Climate Change
  • Infrastructure
  • Indigenous Community Planning
  • Housing
  • Healthy Communities
  • Transportation

These themes may serve as inspiration for your presentation, but topics are by no means limited to this list. If you have a presentation that you think would be of interest and value to the planning community, and you'd like to showcase it in CIP's WTPD Online Conference, we encourage you to submit an abstract.
If you are interested in becoming a presenter or livestreaming your event, please submit an abstract using this form by September 21, midnight Eastern Time.

We thank all of our members who support World Town Planning Day, and are grateful for the communities who have shared their celebrations with us.
