The Canadian Institute of Planners Presents Vision in Planning Award to the Commission de la Capitale Nationale du Québec
OTTAWA, Ontario – June 7, 2016.
The Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) is pleased to award the Commission de la Capitale Nationale du Québec the Vision in Planning Award for its plan for the Promenade Samuel-De-Champlain, and redevelopment of the shoreline in Quebec City. The Vision in Planning Award recognizes community plans that have achieved or exceeded their intended expectations and represent a significant contribution to Canadian planning heritage.
“The Canadian Institute of Planners celebrates the work of the Commission de la Capitale Nationale du Québec for revitalizing and leaving a beautiful and lasting legacy for Quebec City and all who come here to enjoy it,” said CIP President, Hazel Christy.
The plan CIP celebrates was first conceived of in 1995, when the Commission sought to create an integrated vision of the 2.5 km of shoreline between the bridges and the port of Quebec City. Inspired by the St. Lawrence, its landscapes, and the history of the site, the development is both poetic and contemporary. The Promenade Samuel-De-Champlain project was delivered in 2008, and continues to be appreciated by the community.
CIP will be formally recognizing the Commission de la Capitale Nationale du Québec at the joint Canadian Institute of Planners and L’Ordre des urbanistes du Québec’s national planning conference, Accent on Planning, held in Quebec City on July 7, 2016.
