The Canadian Institute of Planners Names Beth McMahon as Executive Director

OTTAWA, Ontario – November 24, 2016. The Canadian Institute of Planners’ (CIP) Board of Directors has named Beth McMahon Executive Director of the Institute effective immediately.

“Beth McMahon joins CIP at an exciting time for the Institute and the planning profession,” said Eleanor Mohammed MCIP, RPP, CIP President of the Board of Directors. “Her background and leadership in Canadian associations and educational experience dovetails perfectly with planning values and the CIP Board’s vision. Beth will be instrumental in shaping and executing the renewed strategic direction of the Institute.”

Ms. McMahon is an entrepreneurial executive with twenty years of non-profit experience and a demonstrated record of building financially successful membership-based organizations. She has a strong background in policy development and land-use regulation, advocating to the federal government for sustainable, environmental, and agricultural regulation and reform through her previous positions as Vice-President of the Canadian Vintners Association, and Executive Director for the Canadian Organic Growers and the Atlantic Canadian Organic Regional Network (ACORN). Ms. McMahon holds a Masters in Environmental Studies (Community Development and Agricultural Policy) from York University and a Bachelors from the University of Toronto in Employment Relations.

“The current social, environmental, economic, and political climate presents an excellent opportunity to recognize and position planners as influential actors within their communities, as well as at a national and international levels,” said Ms. McMahon. “I am looking forward to leading the Institute to better meet the evolving needs of planners and the public, through membership and advocacy efforts.”
